Programme Overview:

The Level 3 Wellbeing and Holistic Therapist apprenticeship prepares apprentices to design and deliver personalised holistic and wellbeing experiences within a range of professional environments. Aligned to the Wellbeing and Holistic Therapist Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard, this programme develops advanced holistic therapy skills, wellbeing knowledge and professional behaviours required to succeed within the wellness industry.

Wellbeing and Holistic Therapists work across spas, wellness centres, leisure facilities, medi-spas, beauty salons and increasingly within healthcare and corporate wellbeing environments. The role focuses on creating balanced therapeutic experiences that support physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.

  • A Wellbeing and Holistic Therapist works independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering holistic treatments in private, safe and professional environments.

    They are responsible for designing and delivering personalised wellbeing experiences that support client health and relaxation while maintaining high standards of safety and professionalism.

    Responsibilities typically include:

    • Conducting detailed client consultations and holistic assessments
    • Delivering treatments using recognised holistic therapy techniques
    • Maintaining strict hygiene and health and safety standards
    • Providing aftercare advice and ongoing wellbeing recommendations
    • Contributing to the commercial performance of the business
    • Working collaboratively with other therapists and healthcare professionals
    • Managing treatment schedules within commercially viable timeframes

    Holistic therapists combine technical treatment expertise with emotional intelligence, client care and professional integrity.

  • The standard on-programme duration is 19 months, followed by a 3-month End-Point Assessment (EPA) period.

    A fast-track route of 8 months (plus 3 months EPA) may be available, subject to prior learning, experience and employer agreement in line with apprenticeship funding rules.

  • Yes. Levy and non-levy employer funding is available.

    Employers can use apprenticeship funding to cover the cost of training and assessment, subject to eligibility and apprenticeship funding rules

  • The programme is workplace-based with face-to-face learning support in a dedicated academy environment.

    Delivery includes:

    • Workplace-based learning
    • Structured off-the-job training
    • Practical demonstrations
    • Professional discussions
    • Portfolio development support

    Apprentices must complete their required off-the-job training hours in line with apprenticeship funding requirements.

    Employers must provide protected time during working hours for this training.

  • Before entering End-Point Assessment, apprentices must:

    • Achieve Level 2 English and Maths (if required)
    • Complete their on-programme portfolio
    • Complete a minimum of 439 off-the-job training hours
    • Be confirmed as occupationally competent by their employer

  • The End-Point Assessment is conducted by an independent End-Point Assessment Organisation.

    It typically includes:

    • Practical observation of holistic treatments
    • Knowledge test
    • Professional discussion

    Successful completion leads to achievement of the full apprenticeship standard.

  • To enrol, apprentices must:

    • Be employed within a wellbeing, spa, holistic or beauty environment
    • Demonstrate commitment to professional standards and client care
    • Be motivated to develop specialist holistic therapy skills

    Employers must provide suitable opportunities for apprentices to practise the full range of holistic treatments required by the apprenticeship standard.

  • On successful completion, apprentices may progress to:

    • Level 3 Advanced Beauty Therapist

    • Level 4 Retail Manager

    • Access industry guidance, updates and professional resources

    Professional Membership – Student Membership with the Complementary Therapists Association

    Apprentices are supported to access student membership with the Complementary Therapists Association (CThA), helping them begin building their professional profile within the wellbeing industry.

    Membership supports apprentices to:

    • Begin building their professional profile within the wellbeing sector

  • Apprentices also complete an independently CPD-accredited Health and Safety course, supporting safe and compliant working practices within spa, salon and wellbeing environments.
